Trojans Outlast Ragin’ Cajuns 72-70 In Overtime; Remain Atop SBC West Division Standings

LAFAYETTE, La. – The UALR men’s basketball (12-13, 9-2) extended its win streak to four games and improved to a 9-2 in Sun Belt Conference play with a 72-70 overtime victory over Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns (14-12, 8-4) on Thursday night. Senior D’Andre Williams led the Trojans in scoring for the fifth-straight game with a career-high 24 points to help UALR remain in first place in the West Division standings.

Arkansas Women's Basketball Team Upsets # 24 South Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Senior C’eira Ricketts led the University of Arkansas women’s basketball team into a three-way tie for third place in the Southeastern Conference with a 68-47 win over South Carolina in Bud Walton Arena Thursday.
The win moves Arkansas to 18-5 overall and 7-4 in the SEC while Carolina falls to 18-6 and 7-4 in the SEC. Georgia was idle Thursday and is 18-6 overall and 7-4 in the league as well. The win is the program’s 200th victory in Bud Walton Arena.

UALR Men's basketball team 1st place Western Division

ITTLE ROCK – The UALR men’s basketball team (10-13, 7-2 Sun Belt) defeated the Denver Pioneers 64-57 on Saturday night at the Jack Stephens Center to claim sole possession of first place in the West Division standings. The Pioneers (16-6, 6-3) entered the game ranked 12th nationally in three-point shooting at 40.5 percent, but made just 6-of-20 attempts from beyond the arc (30.0 pct.) and committed 17 turnovers to UALR’s eight.

UALR Dance Team

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—The UALR Dance Team will host the Tiny Trojan Dance Camp Saturday, February 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Jack Stephens Center. Registration will be held from 9:30-10 a.m. on Saturday with camp taking place on Derek Fisher Court.

Camp is open to girls ages 5-12 years of age. Camp will be taught by the 2011-12 UALR Dance Team.

Cost per camper is $25 which includes admission to the game against ULM, game day tickets, snacks, and a T-shirt.

UALR Athlete of the week Track

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—Sophomore Erika LaCroix earned her first Sun Belt Conference Track Athlete of the Week honor Wednesday after winning the 5,000-meter run at the ASU Invitational this past weekend. LaCroix is the first UALR female track athlete since 2007 to earn the honor.

The Shreveport, La.-native won the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:38.46 ranking her first in the Sun Belt Conference and second in UALR career records.

The last UALR female track athlete to earn SBC Track Athlete of the Week was Whitney Kerth on February 13, 2007.

ESPN2 Picks Up UALR Men’s Basketball Game at Middle Tennessee On Feb. 11

LITTLE ROCK – The Feb. 11 men’s basketball game between UALR and Middle Tennessee at the Murphy Center has been selected as ESPN’s Sun Belt Conference Wildcard game and will be televised by ESPN2, the network announced today. The game time has been changed to 12 p.m. CT from the originally scheduled 5 p.m. tip.
